The pathway

Placement first. Then six levels, mastered in order.

A short placement quiz finds the level where decimals genuinely starts for your child. From there, each level ends in a mastery quiz, passed before the next level opens.

1. Placement quiz

   Finds the starting level. No assumptions from age or school year.

2. Level 1

   Year 5 standard

   Tenths and hundredths: decimal place value and the connection between decimals and fractions.

   • —Understand tenths and hundredths using place value
   • —Connect decimals to fractions and convert between them
   • —Compare and order decimal numbers

3. Level 2

   Year 6 standard

   Place value to thousandths, rounding and confident fraction–decimal conversion.

   • —Understand place value to thousandths (NESA MA3-RN-01)
   • —Round decimals to a specified number of places
   • —Convert between fractions and decimals in tenths, hundredths and thousandths
   • —Multiply and divide decimals by whole numbers (NESA MA3-MR-02)

4. Level 3

   Year 7 standard

   All four operations with decimals, with rounding and estimation used to check reasonableness.

   • —Perform the four operations with decimals
   • —Round decimals appropriately and use estimation to check answers
   • —Convert between fractions, decimals and percentages in context

5. Level 4

   Year 8 standard

   Decimals applied within rates, percentages and measurement: accuracy and sensible rounding in context.

   • —Use decimal computation within rate, percentage and measurement problems
   • —Round answers to a level of accuracy appropriate to the context
   • —Convert fluently between fractions, decimals and percentages

6. Level 5

   Year 9 standard

   Decimal precision in formulas, financial mathematics and measurement calculations.

   • —Apply decimal computation in simple interest and percentage change calculations
   • —Work accurately with decimals when substituting into and rearranging formulas
   • —Round appropriately in measurement and financial contexts

7. Level 6

   Year 10 standard

   Accuracy and rounding managed across extended calculations in trigonometry, statistics and finance.

   • —Maintain appropriate accuracy through multi-step calculations
   • —Apply decimal computation in financial formulas and statistical measures
   • —Interpret rounded results in real-world modelling contexts

All topics and levels are aligned to the NSW Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (NESA). Level 1 corresponds to the Year 5 standard and Level 6 to the Year 10 standard, spanning Stages 3 to 5 of the NSW curriculum.
